The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of the Diamond Sutra prayer for participants in the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Prayer and to examine the impact of the Diamond Sutra Prayer on individuals’ lives. The research questions of this study are as follows: First, what is the meaning of the Diamond Sutra prayer for participants in the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Prayer? Second, what changes did the participants in the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Prayer experience through the Diamond Sutra Prayer? This study conducted written interviews with 28 participants in the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Prayer and analyzed them using a modified consensual qualitative method. The results of this study are as follows: First, the results of examining the meaning of the Diamond Sutra prayer for participants in the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Prayer included three sub-domains: ‘Meaning in Buddhist practice life,’ ‘Meaning in caring for ‘me,’ and ‘Meaning in life.’ Second, the results of examining the changes experienced through the Diamond Sutra prayer by the participants of the Woljeongsa Diamond Sutra Bongchan Prayer included three sub-areas: ‘Changes in Buddhist practice life,’ ‘Changes in the mind,’ and ‘Changes in relationships with others.’ This study provided basic data on the possibility of applying Buddhist practice in modern times by confirming the meaning and changes that the Diamond Sutra prayer brings to individuals’ lives and practice life.
